Ani Choying Drolma - From Pain to a “Heavenly Voice”

The journey of bringing the sacred mantra music to the world is a journey of transformation and healing for Ani Choying.

Born in 1971 in Kathmandu (Nepal), coming from a Tibetan background, Ani Choying had a childhood filled with pain and hardship. Social prejudices, domestic violence, and lingering traumas led Choying Drolma to decide to become a nun at the age of 13.

At the Nagi monastery, Choying had the opportunity to meet and serve under the guidance of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. Through practice and meditation, Choying found a miraculous path to transform her pain.

Her voice naturally arose from the monastery through the practices and guidance of the Vajrayana masters.

Without any formal musical training, Choying's voice resonates and touches the depths of consciousness.

The person who discovered Choying's innate singing talent was American musician Steve Tibbetts. He was the one to introduce Ani to the world. The young nun astounded many with the mantra chants in her debut album: "Chö," released in 1997. The nun, accustomed to the reclusive life in a monastery surrounded by ancient trees, began to be recognized as a voice that brings Mantra Healing music to the world.

Today, Ani Choying has become a symbol of this musical genre. With 16 Vajrayana mantra albums, along with Nepalese and Tibetan music released, Ani Choying symbolizes the genre of transformative music, mantra music, and healing chants.

She has brought her voice to hundreds of stages across Europe, America, Canada, India, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

The people of Vietnam know of Ani Choying through timeless mantra chants such as the Six-Syllable Mantra, the Hundred-Syllable Mantra, the Great Compassion Mantra… With Ani Choying Drolma's participation in the Sound Healing Concert titled: Journey Into Silence in Ho Chi Minh City this September, the public of this conscious music genre and those who cherish Ani Choying’s “celestial voice” will get to experience timeless mantra meditation songs in a special atmosphere.

Ani Choying Drolma doesn’t just perform on stage but also engages in exchanges with the community of Vietnamese healers and her admirers.

Sharing about the special connection leading to two performances on September 6-7, 2025, Ani Choying said: “I have received invitations to perform in Vietnam before, but those were not realized. I believe that somehow the connection with Vietnam has always been something I have been waiting for the right time to come. And this September 2025 will be truly wonderful because I will be part of a healing concert alongside both Nepali and Vietnamese artists.”

Ani Choying's music carries transformative energy. Through the sounds that arise from her consciousness, Choying has transformed her own pain into energy of compassion and empathy. And this transformative energy through mantra sound will be present at the first Sound Healing Concert, Journey Into Silence, held in Vietnam.
